The song that inspired the docu-musical. Although Will’s family couldn’t visit his grandmother in the hospital during the COVID pandemic, the doctors would always tell the family that they were “squeezing her hand” for them. The piece was written to commemorate her.

From the perspective of a small girl sleeping overnight at her grandmother’s house. Synthesized in part from interviews with Will’s sister, the song captures the magic of being a child in a safe space with a relative that you love and look up to.

Performed in March of 2022, Squeeze Her Hand reflects on loss, family, memory, and isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic. In his directorial debut, Will seeks to translate the impact of real audio interviews into a musical narrative that mixes sounds of musical theatre and art song to create a celebration of the life of his late grandmother.

Performed by a mix of NJCU alumni, NJ-based actors, and Broadway/National tour performers, the proceeds of each year’s concert go directly to funding talent scholarships.
